This slideshow was, technically, put together after the end of my term on TommieMedia for the semester. But, as a member of Festival Choir, I got to take one of the very nice TommieMedia Canon DSLRs to Ireland with me to document our choir tour and create this slideshow and let the world take a sneak peek at our travels. It was a very, very good note to end on : )
I’ll be honest: I actually stole the idea from the 2011 MN Daily “Day in the Life” slideshow that I stumbled upon last year. So this year, I proposed the idea to the other editors and our only other photojournalist, and she and I decided to go for it. It started as a 12-hour thing, but at the last second we manned (womanned?) up and took on a full day of taking pictures. We both did get a little sleep, but it wasn’t much, at least on my end. The picture above is the last shot of the slideshow, taken at 11:59 p.m. St. Thomas is kind of known for the arches and has a tradition that when someone gets kissed under them at midnight, he/she becomes a “True Tommie.”
(Mostly) everyone loves the campus squirrels, so we decided it was time to find out more about these cute critters. I investigated whether the food these squirrels eat is making them unhealthy. I will say, the squirrels were quite elusive when I was walking around and attempting to get footage, but with enough patience, I got what I needed. I also made the above rotator for my story!
Some updates on football and track and a plug for a baseball segment of the Locker Room. Just a note: I look like an oompa-loompa here because the white balance here is really off – we tried to fix it but the camera was just not cooperating that day.
The above image is a rotator I created for reporter Baihly Warfield’s story about the Loft, a smoothie and specialty drink cafe in our new student center, and its lack of sales.
Some highlights from this segment included our softball team claiming the number one spot in the MIAC and the latest Locker Room segment featuring a few members of our rugby team, who talked about their newly-acquired club status and recent win against Carleton.
A good game played by the Tommie women! I absolutely loved taking pictures during the golden hour for this story.
The above image is a rotator I made for chief video editor Katherine Curtis’s story on the small on-campus turnout for Invisible Children’s “Kony 2012 Cover the Night” event.
I felt honored when I was assigned this story on swim coach Tom Hodgson’s induction into the Rochester Quarterbacks Club Hall of Fame. I had interviewed Hodgson for previous TommieMedia stories (my Paralympian Mallory Weggemann slideshow and a Locker Room segment) and had gotten to know what a kind and joyful individual, as well as fantastic coach, he is.
[Note: the above picture is a shot from my Weggemann slideshow, but the picture used in the actual story is a submitted photo]
A detailed slideshow of the senior studio art major exhibition at St. Kate’s. Lots of beautiful work!
