Full coverage | Women’s tennis

Strong doubles performances help women’s tennis beat St. Scholastica 6-3.

More tennis! Out of all the sports offered at St. Thomas, this is one I’d prefer to cover just because it’s so laid back and it’s not hard to get some creative, yet still functional shots. And it was nice not feeling totally lost since I’ve covered tennis before.

News in :90 | February 25, 2011

News in :90 – Feb. 25, 2011.

My first News in :90! I actually did this on the first try – I earned the title of the “One-Take Wonder” for the day : ) Those years in high school speech probably had something to do with it!

Photo | GRE changes

GRE changes draw mixed reaction from students.

It actually took several librarians and multiple trips to the info desk to track down this book for a picture, but here’s just a quick shot we needed for the story!

Full coverage | Spring Activities Fair

Clubs encourage students to get involved at Spring Activities Fair.

Meandering around the fair, getting free stuff, and taking pictures of clubs with unique advertising turned out to be a pretty good time. It was fun to do a story that had photos, video, AND a text piece.

Interview | Confession app

St. Thomas students, clergy weigh in on new confession app.

For today’s shift story, I got to go out and interview Father Erich Rutten from Campus Ministry about his thoughts on the new confession app. I hadn’t even heard of it until today, but it seems to be getting some positive reactions.

Full coverage | M. tennis vs. St. Cloud

Men’s tennis beats St. Cloud State 9-0.

This was my first story where I was in charge of both pictures and the text piece. Fortunately, I wasn’t too stressed since the match took 5 hours. I’d say I definitely had enough time to take over 300 pictures, conduct a few interviews, and expand my knowledge of tennis.

Video interviews | Valentine’s Day plans

Students and staff talk Valentine’s Day plans.

Another Friday morning spent roaming the campus, this time finding out which students are going out to dinner with their significant other and which are just kickin it with their friends in honor of Valentine’s Day. I, personally, will be dressing up in cute Valentine’s Day colors, going to class, perhaps doing something low-key with my friends to celebrate, and then going to play practice!

Slideshow | New garage

New parking garage draws mixed emotions from community.

I actually took these photos over the course of a few days last week. Trying to get creative, yet still functional shots here was a bit more of a challenge, but I think it turned out pretty well. The workers were super nice to me, but maybe they were just really happy this would score them some publicity.

Sports in :60 | February 7, 2011

Sports in :60 – Feb. 7, 2011.

My first broadcast! Everything went pretty smoothly, from writing the script to recording the segment. I’d say there’s room for improvement though.

Slideshow | M. hockey vs. St. Olaf

Men’s hockey ties St. Olaf, stays third in MIAC.

I will say this now: I am not a big sports fan. However, watching/photographing hockey turned out to be not so bad. A perfect combination of a fast-paced, never-ending chase for the puck, and mastered & put-to-good-use skating skills. Out of over 600 shots I took [I…don’t quite know how I managed that either], I thought these were the ones that deserved to be published.
