Full coverage | Gavin DeGraw concert

Gavin DeGraw plays for about 800 students in field house.

I love concert photography so I was STOKED for this assignment. However, for about the first half of the show, I just couldn’t get any non-blurry pictures & was freaking out. With some help, I eventually figured it out and got some decent-looking pictures in the end.

Video interviews | Friday the 13th

Students not worried about Friday the 13th superstitions.

This was my last video interview escapade for the year! It was a little harder to get people to talk about Friday the 13th since it’s not really as widely observed as April Fools’ Day or Valentine’s Day, but I was still able to find some good stuff! The last interview is my favorite ; )

Slideshow | Springtime

Photos: Spring at St. Thomas.

I was sitting in my news shift Friday morning when my editor was just like “Hey Rita, it’s such a beautiful day outside! Why don’t you go take some pictures for a spring slideshow?” I almost didn’t believe I was just being set free with a Canon Rebel on such a beautiful day – no limits, no restrictions. It’s being able to do things like this that make TommieMedia fun. It didn’t even feel like work! Reminiscent of my winter photo walk, I meandered around campus finding spring-y scenes & soaking up the sunshine.

Full coverage | Million Crane Project

Students fold cranes in support of Japan.

I think this may have been the first time I got to work on a story I pitched, excluding concerts & events like that. The Million Crane Project is a really cool idea and I’m glad I got to cover it. It was also the first time I got to do a photo slideshow that wasn’t covering a sporting or artistic event, so I really got to experiment and come up with some creative shots. I’m really happy with the way this turned out!

Sports in :60 | May 3, 2011

Sports in :60 – May 3, 2011.

Since these have to be in by noon everyday, and I had class 9:55 – 11:35, I got to run in at 9:15, whip up this script, & record in about 5 minutes. Ohhh the life of a journalist.

News in :90 | May 2, 2011

News in :90 – May 2, 2011.

Another team-effort News in :90. And even though we did everything we could to shorten the script, it was still too long. Of course, things like Osama bin Laden’s death and stabbings and violence at the Mifflin Street Block Party were obviously of high importance and couldn’t be left out!

Full coverage | Musical theater concert

Musical theater concert showcases Chamber Singers.

I was SO. HAPPY. I got to cover this. As a member of the Concert Choir, I fully support the Chamber Singers and had many friends in the concert. Everyone did a beautiful job. Putting this piece together was a little tricky as I had to tackle photos, text, AND audio (something new for me), but I got ‘er done and am quite pleased with how it turned out.
