Slideshow | Festival Choir Ireland tour

Festival Choir creates harmonies and memories in Ireland.

This slideshow was, technically, put together after the end of my term on TommieMedia for the semester. But, as a member of Festival Choir, I got to take one of the very nice TommieMedia Canon DSLRs to Ireland with me to document our choir tour and create this slideshow and let the world take a sneak peek at our travels. It was a very, very good note to end on : )

Audio slideshow | Spring musical

Local students perform in St. Kate’s ‘The Pirates of Penzance.’

This slideshow holds pictures from what was definitely one of my favorite stories to shoot for TommieMedia. There was so much color and action onstage that the only time I put down the camera was to start and stop the audio recorder. I was happy that TommieMedia produced more audio slideshows this semester – I think the audio aspect made the stories much more engaging.

Full coverage | Student creates service

Senior creates job with service-based software.

This story featured senior Solome Tibebu, who is the founder of Cognific, a service-based software that will offer mental health “homework” in a gaming format for young adult patients, as well as an analytics platform for psychotherapists. I absolutely loved working on this story – Solome was very genuine and pleasant to talk to, and I think what she’s doing is amazing.

News in :90 – Feb. 9, 2012.

Highlights from today’s NIN: Greece is on the path to recovery from debt, unemployment aid is at a low, and a construction worker escapes nearly unscathed after shooting himself in the head with a nail gun. My adviser called me “One Take Rita” – that’s all it took for me today : )

Full coverage | Student center security

University will not add extra security for student center.

Another story on the new student center! For this one, I got to interview one of St. Thomas’s head honchos – Michael Barrett, associate director of Public Safety. Although there won’t be extra security in the building, Public Safety is making sure students will stay safe.

Full coverage | Yoga

Yoga: Helpful or harmful?

This story stemmed from an article in the New York Times that included incidents of yoga hyperextending necks, popping ribs, and causing strokes. I talked to some yoga instructors and yoga students at St. Thomas about this issue.

Full coverage | Students in ASC

Students start work in Anderson Student Center.

Our new $60 million student center was set to open Jan. 17. It was a privilege doing this story, as I had the chance to take a tour of and photograph the whole building. The story includes some video clips of the tour! I am one lucky college student.

Full coverage | ACTC Film Festival

Students’ work showcased at first ever ACTC Film Festival.

I got to cover the first ever Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities Film Festival! There was only one entry from St. Thomas, but it happened to be one of the TommieMedia advisor’s son. It was a fun one to cover : )
